Breaking the Rules ...


How many times have you heard me say, "you cant break the rules until you know them??" Well, here is one such example of breaking the rules.


In our studio and field mentoring sessions we always say look for the catch light in the eyes. The eye's need to be alive. But when you have an amazing subject matter and set design that says "I need to be like the walking dead" ... then lifeless eyes, are maybe what you need to convey the story and emotion. I think it works extremely well for this Día de Muertos image.

In our studio sessions, I really like to encourage the folks to shoot off strobe on bulb. The results can produce such amazing and surprising images that can be molded into incredible master pieces. It truly has become one of my favorite techniques, as it allows me to more easily process images, inspired by the old world impressionists which I absolutely love

Just imagine this piece printed large on canvas or a warm Hahnemühle rag.

The original plan was to shoot outside with bright blue skies where we could play with shadow and light. Although the sun did peak out a few times to tease us, we really had to wait till dusk for a chance to recreate the visions in our heads.

This was taken outside in the back loading dock our my studio, with a small light modifier to fill and create drama.

Calling all creative visionaries who have participated in a creative workshop session at Pink Panther Studios.  We are looking for submissions into our 1st on-line editorial magazine showcasing work of our creative participants.

Eligibility: All photographers that have participated in a Pink Panther Studio workshop session are eligible.  Images must have originated in one of the workshop sessions.  Post processing  and creative altering of images is allowed and encourage.

Theme: all themes are accepted. Nudes, fashion, creative, fetish, dark art.

Summary: Act 4, scene 3

In her bedchamber, Juliet asks the Nurse to let her spend the night by herself, and repeats the request to Lady Capulet when she arrives. Alone, clutching the vial given to her by Friar Lawrence, she wonders what will happen when she drinks it. If the friar is untrustworthy and seeks merely to hide his role in her marriage to Romeo, she might die; or, if Romeo is late for some reason, she might awaken in the tomb and go mad with fear. She has a vision in which she sees Tybalt’s ghost searching for Romeo. She begs Tybalt’s ghost to quit its search for Romeo, and toasting to Romeo, drinks the contents of the vial.
